The American Spirit Awards are given each year in a fast-paced ceremony to those extraordinary individuals who exemplify the best of the American spirit, demonstrating their commitment to upholding and defending our constitutional democracy, to freedom, to equality, to dignity for all, and to the common good. Sgt. Gonell was bestowed with such distinguished award for his actions on January 6, 2021.

Operation Renew Hope Foundation's Purple & Gold Gala. Operation Renewed Hope Foundation helps Veterans receive the housing, transportation and supportive services they require to rebuild their lives.

Sgt. Gonell visited the Dominican Presidential Palace and met government officials who thanked him for his public service and representing the Dominican diaspora in the U.S. Army and the United States Capitol Police force.

Sgt. Gonell was awarded the New York Dominican Officers’ Organization (N.Y.D.O) Exemplary Service Award for Distinguished Service and Staunch Dedication to Duty at Home and Abroad.

New York State Senate honored Sgt. Gonell with a Proclamation.
